From the late hosta wild man, Chuck Purtymun, comes this still hard-to-find gem. H.' Abiqua Drinking Gourd' (H. 'Tokudama' x H. sieboldiana) has round, cardboard-like, deeply-cupped, powder-blue leaves on a 2' wide clump. In early summer, the clumps are topped with white flowers. In a garden, few hostas will evoke more favorable comments! Pot size: 3 qt. (2.83 L) #01499

Part Sun to Light ShadeZone: 3-8, at least 8" tall Origin: Hybrid
Open House/Web-Only! (aka: H. 95-558) This 2008 introduction is a PDN cross involving Hosta 'Swoosh', Hosta longissima, Hosta venusta, and Hosta 'Bright Lights' that resulted in a vigorous, fast-multiplying small clump to 8" tall x 18" wide. The clumps are composed of small, 3.5" long x 2" wide green leaves, edged with a wide creamy-white border...great as both a small specimen plant or used in a woodland border. The clumps are topped with 15" tall scapes of medium lavender flowers in June. We have not had this plant tissue-cultured, so supplies are limited. Pot size: 2 qt. (1.892 L) #07837

Hosta 'Applause' (H. Hansen 06)

Hosta 'Applause' (H. Hansen 06)

Part Sun to Light ShadeZone: 3-8, at least 28" tall Origin: Hybrid
Open House/Web-Only! This amazing sport of Hosta 'Edge of Night' is a clump I couldn't take my eyes off of in the garden of Minnesota's Hans Hansen. The heavily-cupped and corrugated dark green leaves with a wide creamy-white border are turned upwards instead of lying horizontally, forming a 28" tall x 55" wide clump that resembles hands clapping; hence, the name. A mature clump of Hosta 'Applause' ranks right up with Hosta 'Praying Hands' in the unusual category. Pot size: 2 qt. (1.892 L) #07589

Hosta 'Blue Ivory' PP 19,623 (B. Meyer/L. Klinkhamer NR)

Part Sun to Light ShadeZone: 3-8 16" tall Origin: Hybrid
This fantastic sport of the popular H. 'Halcyon' was discovered by hosta afficionado Bill Meyer and introduced with the help of Holland's Luc Klinkhamer. The 16" tall x 30" wide clump is composed of blue leaves, highlighted by a wide creamy border that becomes more white as the season progresses...a slow growing but truly spectacular clump that, like H. 'Liberty', takes time to show its true beauty. If you buy tiny liner-sized plants, you'll be very disappointed. Pot size: 2 qt. (1.892 L) #08483
$34.00

Hosta 'Blue Lollipop' (H. Benedict NR)

Hosta 'Blue Lollipop' (H. Benedict NR)

Light ShadeZone: 3-7 4" tall Origin: Hybrid
Open House/Web-Only! This miniature hosta comes from the late hosta breeder Herb Benedict, who had a predilection for keeping hostas captive in his back yard and making them have sex with each other. Hosta 'Blue Lollipop' is the result of Hosta 'Dorset Blue' being forced to mate with itself six or seven times...we lost count. Hosta 'Blue Lollipop' is a bit slow (the inbreeding), but eventually makes a 4" tall x 1' wide clump of narrow, pointed, powder blue leaves. You'll never look at this hosta the same way again...please rescue one for your garden. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml) #08730
$18.00

In early summer, the clumps are topped with proportionally short spikes of lavender flowers. This is a unique and fun hosta to add to any woodland garden. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml) #04677

Hosta 'Cabaret' (H. Hansen NR)

Hosta 'Cabaret' (H. Hansen NR)

Part Sun to Light ShadeZone: 3-8, at least 8" tall Origin: Hybrid
What a beauty! This unusual sport of H. 'Hanky Panky' has drawn lots of attention in our garden...unfortunately, it has been a miserable failure in tissue culture. We've been busy dividing from the original and are finally able to offer a few for this season. The 8" tall x 22" wide, small to medium sized clump is composed of creamy white leaves, each highlighted by a very narrow, medium-green central pattern, which is in turn surrounded by random white threadlike streaks. The clumps, whose edge color changes from white to creamy yellow by midsummer, are topped with 20" spikes of light lavender flowers in late June. Pot size: 2 qt. (1.892 L) #06591

Not only is the foliage great, but the clumps are topped in late July with fascinating flower buds, followed by attractive stalks of light lavender flowers in early August. H. 'Caesar Salad' weathers brutal summers in great shape...a truly distinctive clump. We have not chosen to tissue culture this introduction. Pot size: 2 qt. (1.892 L) #07462

We are pleased to finally be able to release our fine sport of our 1996 introduction, H. 'Potomac Pride'. H. 'Capitol Hill' adds a nice chartreuse-yellow border to the corrugated glossy black-green leaves. The 15" tall x 30" wide clumps are topped in June and July with spikes of spider-like lavender flowers....we're confident it will have a much higher approval rating than what we've got up there now, so please vote "Yea" for passage into your garden.
