Gift certificates are available for $40.00 or more and we will gladly forward it directly to the recipient with a nice note and our latest catalog. Our gift certificates can be used any time (they do not expire) and will take the guess-work out of gift giving for that hard-to-buy-for gardener in your life. You can order these online, use the order form in the center of the catalog, or simply call or fax it in.
PAYMENT: Payment by check, money order, Visa or MasterCard must accompany your order. Make checks payable to: Plant Delights Nursery, Inc. We also accept cash, but only the kind with dead folks pictured on the front. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-paid, first-served basis. All items in this catalog are currently available but quantities may be limited. Ordering early will greatly increase your chances of receiving all of your first choices. Your credit card will be charged when your order is placed, which reserves the plants you have chosen. In spite of our best efforts, a reserved plant may occasionally fall prey to disease, fail to break dormancy, or develop other concerns that do not meet our quality criteria. Should this be the case, you will receive a credit/refund as outlined under "Substitutes."
ADVISORY: If you have already run your credit cards up to the limit, we suggest that you get a higher credit limit before reading through this catalog.
SUBSTITUTES, REFUNDS, CREDITS: Please list acceptable substitutes on your order form. While an item may sell steadily through the season, one customer, an insect, or disease can quickly wipe out those available plants. Because of the minimum shipping charge, it is to your advantage to list a few substitutes. When substitutes are not possible, indicate on your order form whether you prefer credit toward a future order, a refund, or to back-order (must have $20 minimum for back-order). If no preference is listed on your order form or in the comments field on your web order, we will post a credit on your Plant Delights customer account for use towards a future order. Also, if we need to remove a plant from an order and no acceptable substitute is listed, a credit will be posted on your Plant Delights customer account to use toward a future order. If you prefer a refund by check or a credit to your cred it card, please let us know.
PACKING: We grow all of our plants in containers. Most plants are grown in 24 oz. (3 9/16" square) containers, with some of the larger plants in 2-quart (1.892 L) or 3-quart (2.83 L) pots. All 24 oz. plants are shipped in their containers, while plants grown in larger containers will have their containers and loose soil removed before shipping. Dormant bulbous plants are packed and shipped in peat moss.
GUARANTEE POLICY: Plants are living, breathing beings and yes, plants die...for us and for everyone who has ever grown plants. We guarantee that our plants will arrive healthy and in good condition. Due to the nature of perennials, you are buying root systems. A broken leaf does not qualify for replacement. If you receive plants of questionable quality, you must notify us within 5 days by phone, e-mail, or in writing. If you do not notify us within this 5-day period of time - a plant that may have been saved becomes a plant that is culturally out of our control and scope of responsibility. Of course, if a dormant plant fails to emerge, or if there is a problem relate d to a cultural factor here at the nursery, we will guarantee against such problems outside the 5-day window. If you have a legitimate problem, we implore you to let us know, since customer satisfaction is one of our top priorities.
We cannot guarantee your gardening abilities, and ditto for hungry animals or weather-related difficulties that may occur once you have the plants. Of the thousands of plants we ship monthly, the plant loss is amazingly low in spite of the toll shipping takes on a plant and the nature of plants in general. Plant Delights Nursery, Inc. customers understand this risk and accept our replacement policy. This is not Wal-Mart. We do not sell plants at a loss or use plant guarantees to draw you into the store to buy other products. We go to great lengths to establish a relationship of mutual trust with our customers and appreciate that you understand our policy and willingly accept your part of the risk once the pl ants are in your control. We will gladly correct any problems that are our fault, but we cannot be held liable for any amount greater than the purchase price of the plant in question. While we include some cultural information in the catalog, it is impossible to write culture sheets for all 1500+ plants. We must depend on you to ask us if you have cultural questions. We promise is to continue to make these amazing plants available to enthusiasts worldwide and deliver the best plant material available. The rest is up to you.
DOMESTIC SHIPMENTS: Weather permitting, fall orders will be shipped on your preferred shipping date as indicated on your order form. Be sure to indicate specific dates when you will NOT be available to receive your order. If you do not indicate a preferred date, we will make every effort to ship your fall order within 10 days of receipt. If your ship date arrives and we see that potentially damaging weather is predicted, we will delay shipping until conditions improve. We want to be sure you are ready for delivery of your new adoptees.
Before we got into this business, we thought companies were making a lot o f money on shipping ... maybe so, but nurseries aren't. After careful analysis of the time required to take the order, pull the order from the growing area, prepare and wrap it, pack it, fill out the shipping paperwork, and acquire shipping containers (are you tired yet?) there is no profit from shipping ... it is break-even at best. And, like our federal government, we are dedicated to continue this nursery tradition.
In compliance with state regulations, orders being shipped to AZ, CA, HI, OR, PR, and WA must be treated with a low-toxicity pesticide drench and require additional certification. This additional expense is reflected in the shipping and handling charges to these states. We offer Next Day Air and Second Day Air premium services to all states at an additional cost. Please call for details if you prefer to have your order shipped by a premium service.
FOREIGN SHIPMENTS: We work closely with the USDA and shipping companies to ensure that your plants pass inspection and are allowed entry into your country. Unless we are at fault, we do not refund or replace plants that die due to time in transit or customs delays. Orders shipped outside the US must be paid by credit card (MasterCard or Visa only). A $100 plant purchase minimum is required for all international orders. Charges are as follows: the actual price of the plants, a $75.00 phytosanitary certificate fee, and a handling fee of $5 per plant. Shipping costs will be charged to your credit card separately on the day of shipment. To avoid any misunderstandings, we will not quote estimated shipping charges in advance. Until your plant order is bare-rooted, packaged and weighed, we do not know how much the shipping charges will be. The amount charged by the shipping company is the amount that will be charged to your credit card. Additional costs associated with a broker, including any duties and taxes, are your responsibility. Please check with your country's Ministry of Agriculture to determine if any plants you wish to order require an import permit or are listed on a prohibited plants list. If an import permit is required, we must have this document prior to the shipping date for your plants. The import permit must be the original document issued by your Ministry of Agriculture, not a photocopy, and it must be in English. If you cancel your order after USDA inspection, the $75 phytosanitary fee is non-refundable. Orders that are refused due to transit delays or unpaid duties and taxes will not be refunded. Regardless of the circumstances, you are expected to accept delivery of your order. Should you experience a legitimate problem after unpacking your order, we will be happy to assist you.
Once your plants arrive, they should be unpacked immediately. Soak the roots for a few minutes in warm water, then repot or plant in the ground as usual.
HOW TO BE A GOOD CUSTOMER: We realized that most folks have never been trained to be a good customer, so we decided to offer a few pointers. First of all, become an educated customer by reading the catalog instructions carefully (if you are reading this, it's a good sign). When calling, please be patient. While you are the most important person at that moment, there are many more of you than there are of us, either on the other line, or standing at our office door. Whether on the phone or in person, it is important to be nice. Nice customers get amazingly better results than those with a different attitude. We hire only nice people, and we want only nice customers. If you are a mean person, we will be glad to provide you with a list of nurseries that deserve your business.
Our nursery uses a thought process called logic. Logic dictates that if you order plants and forget to open them for a couple of months, don't ask us to send free replacements. If your plants are fine when they arrive, and are later eaten by a vole, die from drought, or look like a fire hydrant to your dog ... don't ask for more ... to quote Trek's Spock, "It is illogical."
We understand that folks change their minds ... no problem. The changing of one's mind at the last minute inevitably causes snafus on the receiving end. Please, if you change your mind, do so far enough in advance that we can accommodate your change. Too many last minute shipping changes have resulted in unwanted mix-ups, not to mention a Valium dispenser in our shipping department!
