Nurseries

We don't link to lots of folks, only some of the best and most specialized sites.

Holly Hill Daylily Farm
Just a hop, skip, and a jump from Plant Delights is Holly Hill Daylily Farm, owned and operated by Dr. Jim Massey, retired director of the UNC - Chapel Hill Herbarium. Besides being a plant nut, Jim has a wonderful daylily nursery...check out the site, and plan a visit on open house day in summer.

Moss Acres
Need Moss? Yes, there is mail order moss available from the folks at Benner’s Gardens, who brought us black deer netting. I hope they made enough money on the netting to support the moss business, but it’s a cool idea.

NC Directory of Certified Nurseries and Plant Collectors
This compilation by the NC Department of Agriculture is a wonderful resource to locate and contact nurseries within NC.

Pendulous Plants
Looking for great new woody plants including the rarest of the rare, check them out. Located in Asheville, NC, they are normally wholesale, but are offering some of their most choice gems retail over the website.

Pine Knot Farms
Our friends Dick and Judith Tyler of Pine Knot Farms in Virginia are indeed hellebore crazy. They travel to England every year and buy the best of the new hellebores for propagation and sale, as well as hybridize their own. Their website has some nice photos of the new hybrids.

Ronniger's Potatoes
I know this doesn't have anything to do with ornamentals, but as a lover of irish potatoes, everyone must try these amazing potatoes...we are talking 85 varieties of potatoes, including the "pre-buttered" fingerlings!

Stokes Tropicals
Our friend Glenn Stokes of Louisiana has assembled a massive collection of gingers and bananas...much of which is not hardy in our climate, but great for containers and summer bedding. If you are looking for a larger selection of tropical gingers, then Stokes is the place.

Terra Nova Introductions
You've heard us mention Terra Nova many times, so find out more about them. Plant breeder Dan Heims and the rest of his Oregon based entourage have been responsible for most of the recent breeding efforts in pulmonaria, heuchera, and tiarella. This amazing site is full of color photos of these and many other TN introductions.

The Orchid Trail
John and Ruth Stanton of Morrisville, NC have purchased the old Blooming Orchid location. If you are in the Triangle area and needs orchids, or need babysitting facilities for your non-blooming plants, contact John or Ruth.

Yucca Do Nursery
Our good friends at Yucca Do Nursery are now going with their wonderful new website. For the best selection of southwest/Mexican natives, this is one of the true horticultural treasures in the country.
