Baptisia leucophaea 'Butterball' is our 2008 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction, selected from 1000s of seedlings from our original Texas collection. The early-emerging Baptisia 'Butterball', which sprouts in March (NC), forms a compact 18" tall x 2' wide deer-resistant clump of glaucous foliage, adorned with obscenely large and floriferous pendulous spikes of creamy yellow flowers starting in early April (in NC). Despite being the most asked about baptisia in our display garden, Baptisia leucophaea cuttings aren't the easiest things to root, so the supply of plants is always extremely limited.
