This 1998 cross of Hosta venusta x Hosta 'Dorset Blue' resulted in one of our all-time favorite Plant Delights introductions that we christened Hosta 'Gemstone'. Hosta 'Gemstone' makes a vigorous-growing but small, 5" tall x 1' wide clump of narrow Hosta venusta-like, blue leaves. In midsummer, the clumps are topped with short 10" spikes of lavender flowers...a hummingbird delight. If you like small valuable hostas, add a 'Gemstone' to your garden.
