Spring 2004 - "Outlaw Gardening"We've had a couple folks who took exception to our reference to "The White List" on the catalog cover above. Seems they decided it must be a racial comment. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of the catalog cover is a reference to the US Department of Agriculture's "White List" of approved plants. In 1999 the USDA's Invasive Species Council decided that in the noble cause of preventing invasive plants from being introduced to the US, the solution was to ban almost everything. This rather upset most horticuralists, botanic gardens, and plant collectors around the country. For more information, visit the following website. |
