This species of century plant has one of the widest ranges, being found on alkaline soils from southern New Mexico and Texas south to southern Mexico, usually at elevations between 2,000' and 7,500'. The fast-suckering plants form large patches of thick upright 1' long, glaucous green foliage, often with a faint central stripe on the back of the leaf. Agave lechuguilla is used in Mexico to make rope, fiber, train obstacle course horseback riders, and make steroids....should be popular with a number of professional athletes.
