(syn: Yushania boliana) We are thrilled to have another clumping bamboo of Sasquatch proportions in Borinda boliana. Our 16-year-old clump of the deer-resistant clumping bamboo topped out at 12' tall with a basal spread of 15', producing 0.5-1" diameter arching blue-green culms. While it doesn't gallop like running bamboos, this is not a small plant, so allow plenty of space. In warm temperate climates, mature plants of Borinda boliana should top out at 50' tall, so don't plant these under power lines or airline flight paths. Our Borinda boliana plants were burned back at 9 degrees F, but quickly recovered. Conversely, they have thrived through 3 consecutive weeks of above 100 degrees F heat and humidity in full sun. We are ecstatic about this bamboo that looks like a giant green waterfall...blue marlin-sized fishing poles, biomass fuel potential, and a quick way to hide your untidy neighbors!
