Echinacea 'Fragrant Angel' is a sturdy 2004 Terra Nova Nurseries coneflower introduction that's still the best single white coneflower we have ever grown. The giant 4-5" heads of pure white petals, around a contrasting orange cone, are also deliciously fragrant and attract hummingbirds and bumblebees. Since these are clonally reproduced, each plant is identical for a more uniform planting.
Maintenance:
This scrumptious white coneflower will re-bloom if cut to the ground promptly after the first wave of flowers begin to fade.
Growing Conditions:
We recommend at least 4 hours or more of full sun, and very well-drained soils. Coneflowers do enjoy regular moisture, despite needing good drainage.
Garden Value;
Coneflowers bloom in mid-June NC, when there is a lull between the spring blooming perennials and those that rock the garden in summer. Because of their compact stature, they can easily be tucked between other perennials where they still have sun and their flowers can be seen. Their sweet fragrance is best enjoyed when they can be plants near a path or other area that allows the gardener to be able to sniff the flowers.
Natural Impact:
This fragrant coneflower is an exceptional nectar source for native bumblebees.
