(aka: Chrysogonum virginianum 'Eco Lacquered Spider') Chrysogonum australe is the US Gulf Coast species, which for years was mistakenly lumped with the clumping Chrysogonum virginianum. Instead of clumping, Chrysogonum australe forms a fast spreading evergreen, deer-resistant groundcover (4' wide in 2 years) in the moist woodland garden, quickly covering the ground without the need for mulch...one of the best North American native woodland groundcovers we've ever grown. Chrysogonum 'Eco Lacquered Spider' was found by the son of the late plantsman Don Jacobs, in south central Georgia and first introduced by Eco Gardens in 1992. The color from the purple stolons runs into the base of the glossy green leaves. Chrysogonum australe 'Eco Lacquered Spider' is adorned with yellow flowers in spring.
