Hosta plantaginea is the most heat-tolerant species from China, as well as being the only species that doesn't require a winter chilling period. Hosta plantaginea is noted not only for its shiny, light green foliage, but also for its 6" long, deliciously fragrant, white flowers. Beginning in August, the flowers, which open in late afternoon, could make any garden a fragrant oasis and a hummingbird haven. Each Hosta plantaginea clump reaches 40" wide, making this a great candidate for a mixed border.
