(aka: Disporum uniflorum) We first encountered this fairy bell in the wild in 1997 on Korea's Ulleung Island. Even before that encounter, we already prized Disporum flavens as the star of the genus Disporum. As Disporum flavens emerges, like a Solomon's seal, in spring, the vivid yellow flowers at the end of the stalk are already visible. As the upright stalk reaches its ultimate height, the tips turn outward within days and the yellow flowers burst forth in a spectacular display...a great, upright, 2' wide clumper. In late summer, Disporum flavens is covered with dark black berries...very easy to grow and simply superb in the woodland garden.
