(aka: Ophiopogon japonicus 'Torafu')This is an exciting Japansese selection, first brought into the US by plantsman Barry Yinger...as an ophiopogon. We grew it as such until a 2014 DNA project with NC State University outted it as a liriope. Liriope minor 'Torafu' is a dwarf, very narrow leaf form of monkey grass that looks nothing like any monkey grass you've ever seen. Each leaf is highlighted with the rare horizontal banding seen in the zebra miscanthus. In a large patch, this spreading mondo grass makes a truly breathtaking sight from quite a distance. The original US clump at Maryland's Brookside Gardens is stunning! Expect about 3-4 years to develop a thick patch to get the best effect...get yours while they last!
