Part Sun to Light ShadeZone: 4-7a, at least 23" tall Origin: Hybrid
This 1998 Werner Frosch hybrid, named for cypripedium grower Sebastian Urban, combines the genes of the east coast Cypripedium parviflorum v. parviflorum with the northwest US native C. montanum. This long distance romance resulted in vigorous 23" tall plants that produce narrow flowering stems topped with white pocketbook-shaped flowers, backed by prominent twisted red-burgundy sepals. The C. montanum parent passed along both a slight fragrance as well as the multiple flower per stalk trait. These flowering-sized plants are in very limited supply. As with all cypripediums, they should only be attempted by experienced growers.
